Obituary for James Bush

James “Sonny” Bush, 81, passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Monday, January 15, 2018. Born February 1, 1936, in Big Creek, MS, he was the son of the late Troy Lee Bush and the late Beulah Mae Lollar. Sonny attended Big Creek High School, and was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer, and a veteran of The United States Army. One of Sonny’s greatest joys was tending to his horses and cows. He loved to take care of all his animals, and had an eye for a real good horse. His family joked that he loved his horses and cows more than he loved them. Of course he didn’t though. Sonny’s wife, Beth, and their family fulfilled his life with love and happiness, and spending time with his grandchildren meant the world to him. Sonny leaves behind many memories to be cherished by his family, and they find comfort in knowing they will meet again.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Friday, January 19, 2018, at 2:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Hartley and Rev. Gladwyn Carpenter officiating. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Collums Cemetery near Bruce, MS.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Chrestman, Randy Chrestman, Mike Bush, George Wesley Washington, J.T. Washington, and Zachary Card. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Hartley, Curt Brasher, Sonny Fugett, Gene Ruth, Roy James Bailey, and James Files.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Beth Hartley Bush; a daughter, Jonna Washington and her husband Scott of Houlka, MS; two step-daughters, Genia Ellis Ruth and Holli Ellis Card, both of Vardaman; eight grandchildren, George Wesley Washington, J.T. Washington, Sara Faye Washington, Tyler Williams, Gene Ruth, Jade Ruth, Kaidey Card, and Zachary Card; and one great-grandchild, Trae Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Lee Bush and Beulah Mae Lollar; his first wife, Faye Brasher Bush; three sisters, Diane Bailey, Mary Alice Bush, and Kathleen Shepherd; and three brothers, Charles Bush, Billy Bush, and Wayne Bush.
