Obituary

Jay Edmondson, 71, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 18, 2019. Born February 20, 1947 in Vardaman, he was the son of the late Julius W. Edmondson, Sr. and the late Virginia Nichols Holloway Edmondson. Jay was a 1965 graduate of Vardaman High School, a Mason with the lodge in Vardaman, and a member of College Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 45 years. He married the love of his life, Betty Carol Wood Edmondson, on May 6, 1967, and they spent 42 wonderful years together until her passing in 2009. Affectionately known by everyone as Jaybird, he loved to work, and spent his entire life farming. From sunup to sundown, he was out working in the field to provide for his family. Most recently he can be remembered for digging those drainage ditches. One of the things that his family will always remember most is thinking; “how in the world was he here on earth as long as his was because of all of his accidents”. From 4wheeler accidents, tractors turning over, running off in the canal, and even falling off the church. They also remember a time when he roped a cow, and it took off dragging him across the pasture. Jaybird was a man you just couldn’t keep down. When Jay wasn’t working, he loved to be reading the Bible and studying God’s word. He lived his life in the presence of God through his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and gave Him the honor and glory for carrying him through to the end of his earthly life and into his presence. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace in his Heavenly home.
Pryor Funeral Home has the honor to be serving the Edmondson family.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, January 20, 2018, at 2:00pm at College Hill Baptist Church in Vardaman. There will also be a visitation on Saturday evening, January 19, 2018 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City. Bro. Mike Ramage will be officiating, with Bro. Jim Vance delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at College Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Trent Edmondson, Cody Edmondson, Shaun Parker, Buck Langford, Thomas Langford, Darrell Mitchell, Chad Lucius, and Scott Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dab Conner, Bill Davis, Jerry Vance, Johnny Langford, and David Mitchell.
He leaves behind his three daughters, Deanna (Stan) Rodgers of Gore Springs, Tracy (Ja)Leachman of Banner, and Kelly (Randy) Chrestman of Vardaman; two sisters, Ann (Johnny) Langford and Sue (David) Mitchell, both of Calhoun City; a brother, Joe (Melissa) Edmondson of Vardaman; and eleven grandchildren, Taylor Rodgers, Jessica Rodgers, Jaymie Davis, Katelyn Rodgers (Keith) Parker, Bryson Rodgers, John Grayson Leachman, Lynsey Claire Leachman, Laken Lucius, Jacey Lucius, Peyten Chrestman, and Colin Chrestman. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
