Miriam “Mimi” Jane Brower Sneed, 83, entered into her Heavenly home from Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Born September 7, 1935 in Grenada, MS, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Davis Brower and the late Miriam Lorene Wooten Brower. She was a retired teacher and merchant, and a member of Kentwood First Baptist Church in Kentwood, LA. She was a graduate of Calhoun City High School, and went on to Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Mississippi. She furthered her education at LSU, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, and going on to get her Master’s Degree in Music also from LSU. She was a member of the Professional Music Clubs of America, and studied in summer seminar at Julliard Conservatory of Music in New York. She taught elementary school and special education for many years, also teaching at Ole Miss Lab School and LSU Lab School for elementary classes. She was a life-long member of Beethoven Music Club of Memphis, where she also performed. She auditioned and sang in the Memphis Opera Chorus, and sang with the St. Louis Symphony on occasion while at Stephens College. She was a soloist at several churches in Pike County, as well as choir director of Osyka Baptist Church. She also organized children’s choirs at Kentwood Baptist Church in Kentwood, LA.
She loved and cared for all of her friends of the animal kingdom. She loved her special work of selling her “garden benches”, which she took up after retiring from teaching. She was a very ambitious, strong, and courageous lady with many lifelong friends. She was a very hard worker who had survived many obstacles, including being in an accident with an 18-wheeler, and battling cancer for five years.
She loved her family very much, and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She also kept the love of family members who had gone on before her very near and dear to her heart. Her work here on earth is done, and she is now in the arms of the Angels in Heaven, but her friends and family will cherish forever the memories she left behind.
