Hention Eugene Smith, 91, entered into his Heavenly home from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada, MS on Monday, March 4, 2019. Born August 22, 1927 in Baldwyn, MS, he was the son of the late Ira H. Smith and the late Rosie Miles Smith. Hention was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Scobey, MS, and retired from Mid-State Paving Co. where he built roads and bridges all across the southeast. He also worked as a carpenter because he loved to stay busy and build things. His faith and family guided his life. He enjoyed reading the Bible and studying God’s word. He loved the Lord and was always ready to share his faith and love to anyone around him. His church family also meant the world to him, and he loved to gather and fellowship with them as often as he could. He was a good Christian man and a faithful servant of the Lord. God has now called him home to be with Him. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, but his memory will be cherished forever in their hearts.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Smith family.
A Graveside service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 10:00am at Memorial Gardens in Grenada. Bro. Ricky Harris will be officiating.
He leaves behind his wife, Willie Mae Smith; a daughter, Barbara Murphy of Memphis; a sister, Rosalind Stanford of Indiana; four step-daughters and four step-sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Quention Smith, and a grandson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wayside Baptist Church in Scobey, MS.
Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at

Prayers go out to my cousin Barbara and Mrs Willie. I loved Uncle Hention very much. I wish I could be there but I can't make it. Our family has lost 2 wonderful men in 5 months time. Prayers for our whole family. Love to all. Also keep at Rosealene in your prayers for she is the last sibling left.

I'm going to post for my mom.
She's the last of those siblings.
Her name is Rosealene Stanford.
We talked on the phone awhile, about Uncle Hention.
We hung up.
A short time later, she calls me.
" It's just hit me. I don't know what to do. I feel all alone now".
I got to her as fast as I could.

Uncle Hention,
My Mama loves you more than you could ever know.
She misses you tremendously already.

Rest in peace.
