John Thomas Flippin, 89, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Calhoun City on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Born January 7, 1930 in Atlanta, he was the son of the late John Conrad Flippin and the late Helen Keys Flippin. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, and was a retired Baptist pastor, as well as a retired principal from Vardaman Elementary School. On January 10, 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara Dyer Flippin, and they have spent 60 wonderful years together. He graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology from Southwestern University in Memphis. He later received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Houston (TX), and his secondary education degree from Mississippi State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was an active member of the SCV and the American Legion. One of his favorite pastimes was building model aircraft, but he was also a history lover, and loved writing short stories. John was a man of great faith who loved his family and leaves behind many precious memories. They take comfort in knowing that he is alive and well with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
