Calhoun City---Janelle Vance Burke, 88, slipped away peacefully to her Heavenly home on Sunday, July 21, 2019, from Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City. Born September 11, 1930, in Calhoun County, she was the daughter of the late R.E. Vance and the late Margaret Doler Vance. She was a 1948 graduate of Slate Springs High School, and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was retired from working many years as Dr. Aycock’s secretary. In 1960, she married Luther Burke, and they spent 25 years together until his passing in 1985. Janelle dedicated her life to her family and her church. She had a deep love for music and played the piano for over 40 years at Shiloh Baptist Church. Her favorite place to be was outdoors working in her yard. Janelle was quite crafty and loved to make quilts for her family. She also enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. A beautiful soul that will never be forgotten, her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Burke family.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 2:00pm at Shiloh Baptist Church in Big Creek. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday from 1:00pm until service time at the church. Bro. Mark Longino and Bro. Jimmy Vance will be officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Burke, Ethan Burke, Darryl Miles, Jr., Brian Johnson, Casey Prestage, and Kaden Pigg.

Vivian and Vance, I'm so sorry to hear of you mother's passing. I was 14 when your parents got married and met your mother shortly afterwards. Uncle Dump and your mother are permanent parts of my memories. I would surely come to her funeral tomorrow, but unfortunately I'm away from home and the distance makes it impossible. However, know that you and your families will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Vivian and Vance, I was so sorry to hear of Janelle's passing. You and family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I will be unable to attend her funeral as Mother just got out of the hospital. She is home and improving. She will be 100 in January. Be sure to hold our love in your hearts as you go through difficult days.
