Obituary

Jim Ray Hitt, 73, passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo on Saturday, August 17, 2019. Born January 15, 1946, in Calhoun County, he was the son of the late Thomas Upton Hitt and the late Hallie Herring Hitt. Jim attended Calhoun City High School, and was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army, and was retired after working many years at Franklin Corp. in Houston. Jim loved to raise goats, and his friends always referred to him as “the goat herder”.
Jim married the former Ruth Overn Winter on August 29, 1970, and they spent almost 40 years together until her passing in 2009. He was very dedicated to his wife and family. Jim and Ruth didn’t have children of their own, but they took their nieces and nephews in whenever needed, and was very generous with their time, and loved them very much. He leaves a lifetime of memories for them to cherish forever in their hearts.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Hitt family.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 1:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home. Bro. Jim Vance will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Long, Matt Long, Marshall McFall, Brandon McFall, Bobby Crutchfield, Steve Crutchfield, and Donnie Smith.
He leaves behind his sister, Cindy Warner; nieces, Juliette Long, Lillie Brand, Ramona Hood, Shelda Treadwell, and Candace Warner; nephews, Adrian McFall, Marshall McFall, Tony Whitworth, and Jeremy Warner; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth Overn Winter Hitt; sister, Carolyn Simpson, and brother, Tom Hitt
