John Larry Taylor, 76, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Born August 28, 1943, in Calhoun County, he was the son of the late John Tom Taylor and the late Lodie Moree Nichols Taylor. Larry was a 1961 graduate of Calhoun City High School, and furthered his education at East Mississippi Community College. He was also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada. In 1983, he married the former Tena Rouse, and they have enjoyed 36 wonderful years together. He was retired after many years with Calhoun Health Services as Ambassador. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He had many hobbies and interests, including gardening, tinkering with his tractors and equipment, and flying RC airplanes, but riding his Goldwing was undoubtedly his passion. He and Ms. Tena loved to ride, taking trips at every opportunity. He was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association, and attended many shows and conventions. Larry was a jokester, and enjoyed pulling a good prank or two. He was a jack of all trades, and was always willing to help others in need. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his grands and great-grands. Larry was loved by his community, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Taylor family.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 3:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday from 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Jon Stewart will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City.
Pallbearers will be Oren Reynolds, Bud Taylor, Tim Tyler, Robert Ira Davis, Phil Lucius, and Sonny Fugett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Lollar, Jimmy Franklin, Frank Langford, Alexander (Xander) Ellis, Steve Long, and Bennie Martin.
He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Tena Rouse Taylor of Calhoun City; son, John Kevin Taylor (Angelyn) of Goose Creek, SC; step-sons, Michael Curry of Holcomb and Benji Britt (Memory) of Grenada; daughter, Lena Marie Tatum (Joey) of Shaw, MS; step-daughters, Natalie Dautenhahn (Larry) of Aztec, NM, and Holly Payton of Grenada; brother, Aubrey Keith Taylor of Calhoun City; sister, Sandra Faye Jenkins of Bruce; grandchildren, Cass, Cody, Corey, Drew, Easton, Emily, Haley, Johnny, Kristen, Latham, Lindsay, Molly, and Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Clay, Cora, Jensen, and Kenzie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby Taylor.

Larry Taylor, who I knew as Pop Taylor, was my grandfather. He was an amazing man who touched many people's lives, and impacted my life greatly. Pop was my best friend and my mentor. The thing I will miss most is his big heart and never failing sense of humor. I'll miss him forever, but his memory lives on.
