Jerry Dee Snellings, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Calhoun City on Monday, February 17, 2020. Born May 8, 1940, in Bruce, he was the son of the late L.D. Snellings and the late Irene Hastings Snellings. He was a 1959 graduate of Bruce High School, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was retired after working many years with the Mississippi Forestry Commission. On February 10, 2001, he married the former Dorothy Nell Coker, and they enjoyed 17 years together until her passing in 2018. He loved working in his garden, especially growing his tomatoes and his watermelons. He also grew beautiful roses. He loved antique tractors, and one of his favorite pastimes was to attend The Sweet Potato Festival in Vardaman and the Flywheel Festival in Houston where they would be lined up on display.

He was well known for being very dependable and reliable, and was always on time for everything. He loved his family, his friends, and his co-workers, and he always put the needs of others before himself. He was a very kind and loving man, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 2:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Thursday from 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Dwight Brown will be officiating, with Paul Lowe delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Snellings, Brent Snellings, Trent Snellings, Jeff Snyder, Phil Snyder, Harvey Galloway, Wyatt Galloway, Ethan Snellings, and Jackson Snellings.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Easley, Jimmy Coker, Sonny Keeton, and crew members of the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
He leaves behind his brother, Larry Snellings and his wife Brenda of Bruce; brother-in-law, James Earl Snyder; nieces, Judy Swilley and Christi Galloway; and nephews, Phil Snyder, Jeff Snyder, Shawn Snellings, Brent Snellings, and Trent Snellings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Nell Snellings; step-son, Johnny Baker; and sister, Frances Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church or the Chapel Hill Cemetery Fund.
