Isom Sydney "Sonny" Wright

On the afternoon of Thursday, December 10, 2020, with his family by his side, holding his hand and praying with him, Isom Sydney “Sonny” Wright, 81, departed this life, and entered into his Heavenly home. Born June 12, 1939, in Coffeeville, MS, he was the son of the late Isah Thomas Wright, Sr and the late Amanda Gracie Liles Wright. Sonny attended Coffeeville High School, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was retired after working many years as a driver for AAA Cooper Transportation. Sonny was considered to be a “jack of all trades” but he loved to build things so woodworking and carpentry were among his favorites. He also loved music, and was actually quite the singer. He would perform with his traveling karaoke band, and entertain various groups including nursing homes and hospitals. He was also a proud Mason and Shriner.
Above all, faith and his family meant the most to him. If you asked him what defines him, he would say that he is a Christian, and that he cherished every moment with his family. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Pryor Funeral Home has the honor in serving the Wright family.
A Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 2:00pm at Elam Baptist Church in Coffeeville. There will also be visitation time with the family on Monday from 12:00pm until service time at Elam Baptist Church. Bro. Reese Ward and Bro. Jim Gore will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Elam Cemetery in Coffeeville.
Pallbearers will be Roger Jackson, Roger Jackson, Jr, Hayden Jackson, Howard Jackson, Ben Liles, and Calvin Schmitz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Bennett, Richard Carpenter, and B.J. Williams.
He leaves behind his wife, Sybil Roach Wright; son, Michael Wright of Cordell, OK; step-sons, Sam (Theresa) Lott and Tommy (Camile) Lott, both of Batesville, MS; daughters, Alisa (Carl) Pingle of Perryville, MO, Karen McNeal of Cordell, OK; step-daughters, Diane Smith of Batesville, MS, Nell (Ricky) King of Cleveland, MS, Mary (Mickey) Watford of Biloxi, MS, Carrol Lockett (Jim) of Marks, MS, and Nancy (Richard) Carpenter of Calhoun City; sisters, Louise Cole of Coffeeville, Waltha Grace Jackson of Tilatoba, MS, and Joanne Davis of Athens, GA. He was also blessed with 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Tom Wright, Clifford Wright, and Isah “Red” Thomas Wright, Jr; sisters, Annie Wright and Wilma Womble.
