Obituary

On Saturday, February 27, 2021, in the early morning hours, Carl Mark Lucius was called to his heavenly home. Mark was born March 8, 1948, in Houston, MS to the late Spencer and Alto Lucius. Mark was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Mark lived life to the fullest when it came to loving his family. He would leave you with a smile or laughter every time you had an encounter with him. The path he leaves behind is well paved with the values of life for his family to follow. Mark was a graduate of Calhoun City High School. On December 6, 1968, he married the love of his life, Jan Hamilton of Vardaman, MS, and they have celebrated over fifty two years of dedicated marriage. They began their family in 1969 with the birth of their daughter, Tracey, and completed their family with their son, Jason. Mark displayed the true ethics of work, dedication, and providing for his family. None of which he used for his self-glory. All he did was for the love and enjoyment of his family. He was devoted to that love, and his life story was well illustrated in showing this. He was retired as a truck driver from Franklin Manufacturing where he and Jan team drove in 2015. Although retired, he didn’t sit in the stillness very long. He began driving for Harrison Logging of Gore Springs, MS. In January of 2021, Mark was involved in, and suffered major injuries from a wreck in his log truck. The fight to try to overcome those injuries was long, and difficult, but he kept holding on to the battle. Sometimes, as we all know, our battle is already won. It’s not always as we as family want it to be won in the present moment, but it’s our God’s victory. Carl Mark Lucius knew his Victor, and he now has no more battles.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Spencer Lucius, his mother, Alto Lucius, brothers, Larry Lucius and Spencer Ray Lucius, and three sisters, Betty Lucius, Geraldine Lucius Parker, and Alax Lucius Dickerson. He leaves behind his wife, Jan Hamilton Lucius-Vardaman; his daughter- Tracey Harrelson (Leslie)-Vardaman; his son -Jason (Misty)-Calhoun City; four grandchildren- Courtney Harrelson Ware (Ricky) -Houston; Levi Harrelson - Vardaman; Garrett Lucius (Kristen) and Gage Lucius, both of Calhoun City; great-grandchildren- Kaleb Ware and Tatum Ware of Houston; three brothers- Kemp Lucius (Margie); Phil Lucius (Joyce); Mike Lucius (Shirley) - all of Derma, MS.
Carl Mark Lucius, also known as Big Daddy, has made Heaven a brighter place for all of his loved ones to desire. That desire can only be filled by believing in Jesus just as Mark did. With this belief there are no goodbyes. It’s until we meet again, Big Daddy.
Funeral services will be will be held at New Providence Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 2 , 2021, at 2:00pm, with visitation from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the church, with burial Funeral following immediately at New Providence Cemetery. All services will be carried out by Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Harrelson, Levi Harrelson, Jason Lucius, Garrett Lucius, Gage Lucius, Ricky Ware, Kaleb Ware, and Tatum Ware.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Lucius, Brooks Lucius, Chad Lucius, Carl Hugh Harrison, Darren Harrison, Kevin Harrison, Will Harrison, Austin Harrison, Wesley Mooney, Braden Sprayberry, Brad Weddle, Kyle Kendall, Forrest Kendall, Tony Parker, Toby Parker, Tyler Parker, Colt Robertson, and J Robertson.

Jan and family, I am sorry for your loss. Mark was one of my favorite drivers. He was a gentle giant who left a trail of smiles in his wake.
